A group of corgi enthusiasts formed the Columbia River Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club (CRPWCC) in 1987.

By the end of that year it had a constitution, by-laws, a code of ethics and an application for membership. CRPWCC held its first specialty match in 1995 – quite an accomplishment for such a young club.

We are an affiliate of the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America (PWCCA). We are proud to be made up of all types of corgi lovers. Some of us show our dogs in conformation, some take part in obedience, agility, tracking, or herding trials, some are breeders and some of us do nothing but love our dogs. What we all have in common is a love for and commitment to the breed.

The mission of the Columbia River Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club is to encourage and support the responsible breeding and ownership of quality pure-bred Pembroke Welsh Corgis and to do all in our power to bring their natural qualities to perfection by protecting and advancing the health and best interests of our breed.

 

We achieve our mission by:

• Urging members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club (AKC) as the only standard of excellence by which Pembroke Welsh Corgis shall be judged.

• Encouraging sportsmanlike competition at dog shows and performance trials.

• Conducting sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, and performance trials under the rules of the AKC.

• Providing ongoing education to our members and our community about canine issues – maintaining good health, veterinary care, grooming,  nutrition, sound breeding practice, and the requirements of conformation and performance events.

• Rescuing and re-homing pure-bred corgis when necessary

 

We generally meet on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The locations vary but you can always confirm the location by checking our website calendar. Because people do come from distances, we try to conclude the meeting by 9:00 or by 9:30 at the latest. In addition to conducting club business, we often have an interesting program. For example, how to groom your corgi and do nails, current naturopathic technology such as acupuncture and massage, creating a  doggie first aid kit, and presentations by veterinarians on corgi health concerns. We strongly encourage people interested in membership to attend various Club activities. It not only provides our members with the opportunity to get to know you, but will also help you to decide whether or not the Club is a good fit for you.
